Meditation on Insomnia
One night, when I was pregnant, I couldn’t sleep. We were on a weekend break away and I started by being angry that I couldn’t sleep because I wanted to enjoy the next day. As I lay there, my anger gradually dissipated as my thoughts ceased to come in words and became shapes fused with my emotions. So suddenly it became a choreography of thoughts and emotions combined. I lay there transfixed as I watched this dance and spent the following few months trying to recreate the experience in sketches and photographs. Finally I made this animation and collaborated with composer Nikos Paravatos. We to-ed and fro-ed images and sounds until we came up with this.
